Direct Messages

Starting direct messages, quote replies, and muting a conversation.

Direct messages (DMs) are private conversations outside any channel.

Starting a DM

Click the plus icon (New DM) next to Direct Messages in the sidebar. The New Direct Message dialog opens.

Search for a workspace member by name or email, and select them.
Click Open DM.

If you already have a conversation with that person, EOMIS reopens it, so you never end up with duplicates. The DM header shows the other person's avatar and name with their live status: Active now or Offline.

Group conversations (several people, with an optional name) also appear under Direct Messages; their header shows the member count.

Like channels, a DM header has a Pinned list and a notification bell.

Quote replies

In a DM, hover a message and choose Reply. The composer shows a "Replying to [name]" bar (click × to cancel). When sent, your message shows the quoted original stacked above it, and anyone can click the quote to jump back to the original message in the history.

DMs use quote replies; channels use threads. The two are intentionally different: quotes keep a fast-moving private chat linear, while threads keep busy channels organized.

Muting a conversation

To mute a DM, click the bell in its header and choose Mentions only (mute the chatter but keep @mentions) or Nothing (silence it completely). A muted DM stays in your sidebar but stops notifying you. Unread counts still accumulate quietly.
