Messenger Basics

Workspaces, the collaboration sidebar, presence, and unread badges.

Messenger is the real-time chat area of EOMIS. Everything happens inside a workspace, a container with its own channels, direct messages, and members. You only see workspaces you belong to; the first one is selected automatically when you open the collaboration area.

The collaboration sidebar

The left sidebar is shared by Messenger and Communications. On a desktop it can be expanded or collapsed to a narrow icon rail; on a phone it opens as a drawer.

From top to bottom:

  • Workspace switcher: pick the active workspace.
  • Toolbar icons: search messages, manage workspace members, audit log, and create workspace. Icons you lack permission for are hidden.
  • Inbox: opens Communications. A red badge shows your unread count (capped at "99+").
  • Threads: your threads inbox, with its own unread badge.
  • Channels: the channels you can see in this workspace.
  • Direct Messages: your one-to-one and group conversations. Up to 8 are shown, with a "Show more" expander.

Presence

A green dot on an avatar means that person is online right now. Inside a direct message, the header shows Active now or Offline.

Unread badges

Channels, direct messages, the Inbox, and Threads each carry their own unread counter. Thread activity is counted only under Threads, never on the channel badge, so a busy thread does not light up the whole channel.

Tip

Inside a conversation, a "NEW" divider marks where you left off, and a pill offers to jump to the first unread message.
